Managing Failed Payments - PosiGive
PosiGive, in partnership with Stripe, provides a robust and versatile payment system designed to support a variety of payment methods tailored to the preferences of both organizations and donors.
It's important to note that there may be occasions when a donation is not processed successfully due to various factors.
Below, we outline the guidelines for addressing failed payments across different payment methods across different payment methods.
Failed Payments of Credit Card
Donations made with a credit card can be processed immediately and can be set up for both once-off and recurring contributions for the first transaction only.
If a transaction fails—since one-time credit card transactions are designed to be processed right away—an insufficient funds situation will result in the card being automatically declined, the donation will not be processed and a Gateway Transaction record will be created. It will do the same with other scenarios where the card is reported as lost or stolen by the cardholder and is used by someone to process a donation.
Please note that if a credit card payment for a one-time gift entry fails, retries will not be processed. It’s important to ensure that your payment information is correct before completing your transaction.
Failed Transactions of BECS Debit
Donations made with BECS Debit the transaction will be processed with the Gateway during the nightly processes. Once submitted, the Gateway processes and sends approval responses, which typically take up to three business days. All transactions and responses are managed through Stripe.
In the case of failed transactions, such as when a bank account cannot be located or when the transaction is unauthorized, the donation will not be processed. Instead, a Gift Transaction will be created with a Payment Status marked as Failed. Additionally, a Gateway Transaction will be generated, providing details about the reason for the failure.
Bounced Cheque (Check)
When dealing with bounced checks, it's important to know that this payment method does not allow retries. After you process a gift entry using a cheque and complete the bank deposit, you may receive an email notification from your bank indicating that the check has bounced. In this situation, you must manually update the status of the Gift Transaction to "failed."
